The best climbing conditions occur between December and April. This is the dry season, which makes the uneven stone steps and final boulder scramble safer. The ticket office opens at 5:00 AM. Arrive then to avoid the mid-day heat and secure a spot for sunrise.

Planning questions
Is there water on the trail?
No. There are no vendors once you pass the ticket office. Bring at least one liter of water per person.
Can I climb in flip-flops?
It is highly discouraged. The final 10 minutes involve pulling yourself over large, smooth boulders. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip.
How much is a tuk-tuk from Dambulla?
A return tuk-tuk trip from Dambulla costs roughly 2,000 LKR. This usually includes the driver waiting two hours while you hike.
